A six-passenger plane crashed into Tampa Bay, Fla., on Tuesday, Oct. 8, after its engine failed during takeoff, a St. Petersburg Fire Rescue spokesperson Ashlie Handy confirmed to PEOPLE. The four passengers and a dog were trying to evacuate ahead ofHurricane Milton.
The private Cherokee plane attempted to take off from the Albert Whitted Airport, but its engine failed around 10:50 a.m. The plane crashed and became fully submerged in the water.

A zoo in Florida is mourning the death of three of its primates, who died from shigella.
Within days, the bacteria, which causes shigellosis and producessymptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, and dehydration, led to the death of three gorillas at Florida’s Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.

Three young brothers in Indiana were all diagnosed with the same rare brain abnormality.
According toMayo Clinic, Chiari malformation is “a condition in which brain tissue extends into the spinal canal” due to a portion of the skull being misshapen or too small. Many people with the abnormality never exhibit symptoms or require treatment. However, those with symptoms commonly experience headaches, neck pain, imbalance, dizziness and trouble with swallowing.
