Guyger was ordered to pay about $60 million in punitive damages and $38.6 million in compensatory damages to the family of Jean, who was Black, resulting in a $98.65 million settlement in the wrongful death case, per the filing.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, the Jean family’s legal team, which includes civil rights attorney Ben Crump, called the verdict a “powerful testament to Botham’s life and the profound injustice of his death.

The body of a man whowent missingwhile paddleboarding has been found, according to police.Greater Manchester Policeannounced on Wednesday, Oct. 23, that the body of Simon Daniels, of Cheshire, England, had been found in the Dovestone Reservoir.The search was launched on Sunday, Oct. 20, after authorities received a report of two people who “got into difficulty in the water,” according to the police department’s news release.

The family of a missing hiker in Utah is trying not to lose hope that he will return home safely as the search for him enters its second week.

But as the search for Stone begins approaching its second week, none of his personal items have been recovered and there has only been one brief potential sighting of him.

Army vet Victor Carl Honey struggled with paranoidschizophreniaand was homeless when he died in Dallas in September 2022, according to anNBC Newsinvestigation.
He was entitled to military funeral. But Honey’s body wasdeemed unclaimed,the outlet says. It was one of 2,350 bodies given to University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth for medical research.
