For decades, Betty Cartledge didn’t put much thought into the fact that she had never participated in an election. But this year, on the eve of her 82nd birthday, something changed.
One day after early voting began in Georgia, local television stationChannel 2 Action Newscaught Cartledge on her way into a Newton County polling location in the greater Atlanta area.
“I’m going to vote for the first time in my life,” the Covington resident told the outlet on Wednesday, Oct.

An elderly hiker survived nearly 10 days alone in the Idaho wilderness during a trip that was intended to last only half that time.
Olbum initially departed from the area’s Hunter Creek Trailhead on Aug. 1, and as of the morning of Aug. 7, officials revealed he had not made it to his intended exit point of Mcdonald Creek. The sheriff’s office initially shared the news onFacebook, noting that its search and rescue units were looking for Olbum.
