A 17-year-old has been arrested in Texas in connection to the death of a 9-year-old girl last year.
Tara Zieman of the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office confirms to PEOPLE that the 17-year-old — who has not been named due to their age — has been extradited from Texas to Mobile, Ala., on a capital murder charge.
The teen is among five people charged in connection to the death of Cailee Knight, 9, who was asleep on the couch when shooters fired into her Mobile, Ala.

An Alabama man has been arrested for allegedly trying to hire out the murders of his estranged wife and six adult children.
A preliminary hearing is slated in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama on Friday, Sept. 27, at 10:00 a.m.
His federal public defender, Kevin. L. Butler, did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Mohammad and his wife, married since March 2021 are currently in “active divorce proceedings,” per the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint.

An Alabama man was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped a woman outside a store and held her at gunpoint before forcefully taking her to a church to perform a mock wedding, according to local law enforcement.
The alleged victim was at a convenience store in Mobile, Ala., on Friday, Oct. 11, when 37-year-old Roy Lee Clowder approached her and asked her for a ride, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, according toWKRG,AL.
