10-Year-Old Boy Who Caught Freddie Freeman’s World Series Grand Slam Ball Was Crying ‘Tears of Joy’

One young boy had his dreams come true when he caught a home run ball — possibly the most historic home run ball ever — in this year’s World Series.

Freddie Freeman’s grand slam during Game 1 of the World Series not only gave the Dodgers the win, but also gave 10-year-old Zachary the chance to catch the ball that Freeman drilled into right field, becoming the first-ever grand slam in a World Series game.

After Zachary, whose parents have decided to withhold his last name, caught the ball his parents spoke about the once-in-a-lifetime moment withNBC News. “When he hit the ball, we knew it was leaving the park, but we had no idea we were going to catch it.” they told the outlet. “The ball bounced on the seat in front of us and rolled on the ground a little bit. Then I got it.”

Nico, Zachary’s father, said of his son’s feelings in the moment: “He was just crying — the tears streaming down his eyes and a big smile on his face. He had just tears of joy.”

Nico continued, adding that even Yankee fans couldn’t help but enjoy the moment that his son will remember forever.

In the days since he caught the home run ball, young Zachary told NBC News that the response he received from fans was overwhelming. “Everyone wanted to get a picture with me. Everyone wanted to see the ball. I was just mobbed,” he said.

The Dodgers and the Yankees will face off again in Game 3 of the World Series on Oct. 28 as the series switches to the Bronx. The Dodgers currently lead the series 2-0.
