3 Young Children Killed in Iowa Crash Were Not Wearing Seatbelts: Authorities

Three young children who died after an Iowa car crash, which also injured three other adults as well as another child, were not wearing seatbelts, according to authorities.

According to apress releasefrom the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, another child, who survived but has not been named, was in the SUV at the time of the crash. It is unclear if they were wearing a seatbelt.

According to the sheriff’s statement, the two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 9 a.m. near the 3700 block of Highway 30 in DeWitt, along Iowa’s eastern border.

The vehicle ended up in a ditch adjacent to the highway following the crash, and the truck was found stopped along the shoulder with “significant frontend damage.”

The driver of the Dodge truck, 70, is the only person who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

The sheriff’s office added that the three adults were taken to various local hospitals, where they were treated for their injuries.
