4-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling from Washington Apartment Window

A4-year-old girl has diedafter falling from a fifth floor apartment window in Washington.

The incident took place at the Echo Lake Apartments located at 1160 North 192nd Street on Sunday, Oct. 13,Fox 13 Seattlereported, citing the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses who spoke with the news station said a Good Samaritan attempted to give the child CPR until first responders arrived, however, the little girl died from her injuries after being transported to a hospital.

“I went around the back after I heard someone screaming,” Andre Alexander, a witness to the situation, toldKIRO 7. “When I went back there, I seen the young lady, the little girl had fell out the window.”

KIRO 7 also spoke with the child’s mother, Najaha Chancellor, who said she was home alone watching her four young children from her bathroom when the accident occurred.

According to Chancellor, the 4-year-old had been jumping on the bed while playing with her siblings.

“She bumped into… the screen fell off and she went down, and I completely lost it,” the grieving parent said. “As a mother, it’s your job. It’s your job to protect your children at all costs.”

Chancellor added that although she is mourning the loss, she has to stay strong for her three other children.

“I’m just trying to keep it together as any mother would try to do. I still have three other kids to show I have to be strong for. So crying is going to make kids even more emotional,” she said. “I’m never ever going to get over this because it’s different when it’s your child that you lose. It’s absolutely different.”

Since her daughter’s death, Chancellor has started aGoFundMeto help cover funeral expenses with remaining funds being used to support the family during their difficult time.

In the GoFundMe, Mi’layah was remembered as “sweet” and “vibrant.”

“Mi’layah was a ray of sunshine in our lives. She was always full of happiness, and her joyful spirit touched everyone who met her. She had a deep love for her family, especially her siblings,” the post read.

The little girl with a “huge heart” “adored the simple things in life, like her favorite fruit, bananas, and her love for the water,” the post continued.

“Swimming was one of her greatest joys; she loved splashing around and enjoying the freedom the water gave her. Mi’layah was smart, playful, and beautiful, and her memory will forever be a part of our family.”
