A Look Back at Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's Last Appearance Together at the Venice Film Festival in 2007

Jolie, 49, just premiered her Maria Callas biopicMariain competitionat the Italian festival. Pitt, 60, meanwhile, will premiere action-thrillerWolfs, costarringGeorge Clooney,out of competition.

“There is no way that they can cross each otherat the Lido,” Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera toldVanity Fairearlier this month. Jolie’s appearance kicked off the fest on Aug. 29; she next heads to this year’s Telluride Film Festival, Barbera said. Pitt will arrive in Venice after her departure, on Aug. 31.

It was during Jolie and Pitt’s buzzy 12-yearrelationship, which included their2014 marriageand ended with Joliefiling for divorcein 2016, that the two superstars made an appearance at the Venice Film Festival together. Before then, theGirl, InterruptedOscar winner premiered the animated movieShark Taleat the historic event in 2004, bringing then-3-year-old sonMaddoxwith her.

Pitt has debuted multiple films at the fest:Fight Clubin 1999,Burn After Readingin 2008,Ad Astrain 2019 andBlondein 2022.

At the big debut, the two walked the red carpet along with Pitt’s costarsCasey AffleckandSam Shepard, as well as the film’s writer-director Andrew Dominik.Jesse Jamesalso costarredMary-Louise Parker, Paul Schneider,Jeremy Renner,Zooey DeschanelandSam Rockwell.

The then-couple made a memorable appearance at the Lido that night. Jolie wore a black dress made of flowery lace with a pearl necklace, while Pitt wore a cream-colored tuxedo jacket and black bowtie. They both signed autographs for fans on the carpet and posed for photos hand-in-hand on their way into the theater.

In Venice, the future Oscar winner spoke toCBS Newsabout playing Jesse James in his film, comparing the legendary outlaw to modern-day celebrities.

“The funny thing to me is that it doesn’t seem that different today as it was then, in the sense that a lot of it was manufactured, a lot of it was sensationalized, very little of it was based on truth,” he said at the time.

Now, Pitt and Jolie’s contentiousdivorce negotiations remain ongoing, and a legal battle continues overChâteau Miraval, the French winery they previously co-owned. The former couple sharesix children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twinsKnoxandVivienne, 16.
