The book, publishing from AUWA next year, follows Nguyen from the “violent turmoil” of her childhood to her role as a civil rights activist today. Nguyen’s work allowed for the unanimous passage of the 2016 Sexual Assault Survivor’s Rights Act. She also founded the civil rights organizationRise, which aims to protect the rights of rape and sexual assault survivors, per their website.
Saving Five, which also incorporates the voices of Nguyen’s younger selves at ages 5, 15, 22 and 30, is a “moving journey toward acceptance and hope,” per the memoir’s description.
“This is a book of pure bravery. Amanda Nguyen went through a deeply traumatic experience and came out the other side in ways that helped lift up countless others,” said Questlove whose imprint AUWA will publish the book. “It’s hard to imagine her strength, her honesty, or her intelligence when it comes to dealing with self-doubt. I am so happy to have the opportunity to support her voice, and to bringSaving Fiveto the world.”
