All About Amy Poehler and Will Arnett's 2 Sons, Archie and Abel

Amy PoehlerandWill Arnett’s sons are all grown up.

The former couple,who wed in 2003 and separated in 2012, share two teenagers: Archie, 16, and Abel, 14. But despite their public careers. Poehler and Arnett have co-parented their sons away from the spotlight.

Archie and Abel did, however, make brief appearances in an episode of Arnett’s 2023 docuseriesSmartless: On the Road. They also had small parts in their father’s 2017 filmThe Lego Batman Movie.

Recently, in June 2024, theInside Out 2actress gave arare parenting update about her sonson an episode of Dax Shepard’sArmchair Expertpodcast, explaining that giving advice to teenagers isn’t always easy.

“Sometimes I see them disconnect when I’m talking,” she said, adding, “Why can’t we stop at the empathy part and not have to give the fix part?”

“So I’ve got teens now and I am learning that the way to keep them talking is to not do the second part, to do the part of, that happened to me too," she explained.

Archie and Abel are also big brothers to Arnett’s third child,Alexander Denison, whom he welcomed in 2020 with his girlfriendAlessandra Brawn.

Archibald “Archie” William Emerson Arnett, 16

Poehler and Arnett’s older son, Archibald “Archie” William Emerson Arnett, was born on Oct. 25, 2008. He’s named after his father, whose full name is William Emerson Arnett.

Poehler also had somesweet words about their sonand becoming a mother.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “He’s a sweet boy. Archie’s the best.”

As he has grown, Archie has become more familiar with his parents' careers, though Arnett and Poehler have preferred to sheiled their children from some aspects of Hollywood.

“They understand that this is my job and there are certain things they like about it,” Arnett told PEOPLE of his sons in 2017. “But if they come to the premiere, they don’t do the red carpet. Idon’t want them to experience the showbiz-ypart of it.”

In a March 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Poehler also discussed whether or not her sons were interested in Hollywood and her work.

“They do watch it. They tolerate it, but they’renot champing at the bit to watch any of my stuff, to be quite honest,” she said of Archie and Abel. “I mean, the other day we were talking aboutSNL, and I was like, ‘Who do you think are the bestSNL[cast members]?’ And my kids were like, ‘Well, probably [Colin] Jost and [Michael] Che.’ And I said, ‘Not your mother?!’ They said, ‘No.’ "

Still, Archie has had some small roles in the entertainment industry. He provided his voice forThe Lego Batman MovieandThe Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, both of which starred his father as Batman.

Abel James Arnett, 14

Poehler and Arnett’s younger son, Abel James Arnett, was born on Aug. 6, 2010.

When he was just a few months old, Arnett told PEOPLE: “It’s super great, [but] we have been going back to sleepless nights.” He also shared that Archie was warming up to being a big brother.

“I make him say hi to his little brother and he just barely turns around and goes, ‘Hey!’ " Arnett said. “He’s just being a sweet guy. They both are doing great.”

When Abel was 5, he and his older brother got toattend the premiere of Arnett’s movieTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.Abel, however, opted out of the movie portion.

In the same interview, Arnett shared that he was coaching the Little League team that both his sons played for.

“I love it, and I probably love it more than they do,” he added.

It appears Abel has also inherited his parents' comedic chops. In a 2022 appearance onJimmy Kimmel Live!, Arnett shared a few funny stories about his and Poehler’s younger son.

He continued, “And like the other day, Archie said, ‘God, Abel just spews all this nonsense and he just says all this stuff that’s a complete conversation killer,’ and Abel immediately replied, ‘You know who is a conversation killer? John Wayne Gacy.’ "

Additionally, he’s been known tomess with Arnett from time to timeabout watching his very adult animated show,BoJack Horseman.

“My little guy, his joke is, ‘I watchedBoJack!’ And I always have to double check, ‘You’re kidding, right?’ ‘Yeah, I’m kidding,’ " Arnett told PEOPLE in 2017.

Just like his older brother, Abel has dipped a toe into the movie world with a small part in his father’s 2017 movie,The Lego Batman Movie.
