All About Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell's Husband Eldridge Toney, Who She Wed Before Her Death

Anna “Chickadee” Cardwellwas in a long-term relationship with her husband, Eldridge Toney, before she died in December 2023.

TheHere Comes Honey Boo Boostar first began dating Toney in 2017, following her divorce from Michael Cardwell, with whom she shared one daughter, Kylee. She also had another daughter, Kaitlyn, from a previous relationship. She and Toney quietly married in March 2023.

Cardwelldied on Dec. 9, 2023, after beingdiagnosed with stage four adrenal carcinomain January, her mom,Mama June Shannon, announced in anInstagrampost. She was 29 years old.

“With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us,” Shannon wrote. “She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM. She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will will [sic] be updating y’all with more information as we get it today.”

They started dating in 2017

According to Cardwell’sFacebook, she and Toney began dating in June 2017. Previously, she was married to Michael Cardwell from 2015 to 2017, and the two shared a daughter, Kylee, together.

Toney grew up in Wrens, Georgia, and graduated from Baldwin High School, per hisFacebook.

They moved into a home together in 2020

In March 2020, Cardwell shared withThe U.S. Sunthat she and Toney were moving into a double-wide trailer together on a lake in Milledgeville, Georgia. They previously lived in a smaller trailer in Gordon, Georgia.

“Eldridge is great with the girls and we wanted to have a bigger home to raise our family in. We fell in love with the property being along the lake side,” Cardwell told the outlet. “It’s like a dream come true. I cannot wait to unpack and decorate and make it my own.”

Before she was diagnosed with cancer, Cardwell had hoped to welcome a child with Toney. However, the two experienced multiple miscarriages in 2021, she toldTheU.S. Sunin June of that year.

The reality star added that she miscarried right before Christmas in 2020 and the doctors later informed her she didn’t “make enough progesterone,” which impacted her pregnancies.

Regardless, the couple had planned to continue trying.

They got married after she learned of her cancer diagnosis

In her 2021 interview withTheU.S. Sun, she told the outlet that the two were considering marriage even then.

“We’ve been together almost four years this month or next month,” she said. “It’s a hassle to deal with him and it’s a hassle to deal with me. He wants to marry me, but after my first marriage, I don’t really want to get married again, because you never know what will happen. I always tell him marriage is just a piece of paper saying ‘Hey you’re married.’ ”

She added that the two had promise rings made for each other and that if they made it past four years, she would be more open to the idea of marriage.

Even prior to her diagnosis, Toney was always supportive of Cardwell.

“He deals with a lot of my stuff, he helps me because I’ve got really bad anxiety and a little bit of depression here and there but, you know, I’ve had it worse,” she toldTheU.S. Sun. “It’s not as bad as it used to be and he helps me through all that stuff and makes sure I’m okay. Like he always asks me, ‘How are you today? Are you okay?’ ”

She added that her family approved of him, with Mama June jokingly asking him how he put up with her.

“Our relationship has been good, and the family really loves him,” she said. “Mama would ask him ‘how have you dealt with her for four years?’ And he’ll say ‘It’s not always easy but I’m dealing with it.’ ”

He was close with her children

While the girls continued their relationship with Cardwell’s ex-husband Michael, Toney also stepped in as a father figure. Cardwell frequently posted pictures of himgoofing offwith her daughters.

He was also present when Kaitlyn graduated from elementary school in May 2023 and Kylee moved up to the second grade, per Cardwell’sFacebook.

In September 2024, Shannon was awarded custody of Kaitlyn after a family therapist testified that she had “expressed a desire to stay” with her grandmother.
