The acclaimed artist purchased his 19th-century Gloucestershire home, Toddington Manor, in 2005 for $3.8 million, according toThe Guardian. Hirst was reportedly planning to restore the property and turn it into his family home equipped with a private art gallery for his work.

However, his unfinished renovation plans reportedly received some backlash from locals after it was left sitting for years without any progress.

“It is one of the biggest eyesores in the area. People are fed up with it. Damien Hirst has had this property for 17 years now, but it is still clad in scaffolding and tarpaulin, and as far as we can tell there is no restoration in sight,” former Toddington Parish Council chairman Nigel Parker told the outlet at the time.

Toddington Manor is currently listed onHistoric England’s “Heritage at Risk” register. Per the listing, the home was “mothballed” for years before a new owner, Hirst, purchased it.
