All About Maya Erskine and Michael Angarano's Relationship

Maya ErskineandMichael Angaranohave marked many milestones since they first went public with their relationship in 2019.

Amid their respective nominations at the 2019Emmy Awards, theThis Is Usactor went Instagram official with thePEN15actress as he shared a sweet photo of them sitting near each other at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Though they’ve kept their relationship low-key through the years, they have shared glimpses of their love on social media, sharing sweet tributes to one another and championing each other’s careers.

Here’s everything to know about their relationship.

They first met while working on a film together

While talking withVulturein February 2024, Erskine gave rare insight into how her relationship with Angarano began. According to the publication, they first met when Erskine was in talks with Angarano about a role in his filmSacramento, which he directed and stars in. After that, Erskine found a way to incorporate him into the cast ofPEN15and the rest is history.

They went Instagram official in September 2019

After attending the Creative Arts Emmy Awards together in 2019, Erskine and Angarano went public with their romance on Instagram as they both posted sweet tributes to each other.

Alongside a selfie of them sitting near each other during the ceremony, theSky Highalumcaptioned a photo of him and Erskine, “ohhh look who it is sitting right behind me completely randomly at an awards show in which we were both nominated who i also happen to be in love with 😭❤️💨.”Meanwhile, theMr. & Mrs. Smithstarshared the same photowith the caption, “Look who was sitting right in front of me. I ❤️ you.”

That same month, they kept the public appearances coming as they stepped out at various award show parties and eventually accompanied each other to the 2019 Emmys, whichAngarano shared a photoof on Instagram.

They previously shared the screen onPEN15

The following year, Angarano made a guest appearance on Erskine’s hit seriesPEN15, in which she and her costar Anna Konkle play 13-year-old versions of themselves. Angarano appeared in two episodes as a character named Greg who directs Erskine’s character’s school play.

They announced they were expecting and engaged at the same time

In November 2020, Erskine and Angarano made the surprise announcement thatthey were engaged and expectingtheir first child together. Alongside a photo of him cradling Erksine’s bump, Angarano wrote on Instagram, “And then there were 3… also, we’re engaged.”

Duringan interview withVoguepublished in May 2021, Erskine shared more details about her pregnancy, which occurred around the same time as herPEN15costar and co-creator Konkle.

“I found out at Michael’s parents house in late July,” Erskine told the publication. “I had told [Konkle] that Michael and I were going to start trying and then told her in person, socially distanced at a park, and then told all our friends in the ocean as a wave overtook us—again, socially distanced at the beach. It was very dramatic.”

They welcomed their first child in May 2021

Angarano applauded Erskine on being a great mother to their son as her hit seriesPEN15released its final season. “you are incredible… as an actor, a writer, a showrunner, a director, and a mom,”he captioned a photoof the actress with their newborn in her trailer. “we love you and are so grateful for you in our lives (i’m speaking on mine and Leon’s behalf).”

They are costars in the filmSacramento

After briefly sharing the small screen onPEN15, the two shared the silver screen inSacramento, which was released in June 2024. The road-trip comedy stars Angarano, Erskine, Michael Cera and Kristen Stewart, the latter of whom dated Angarano from 2005 to 2009.

In addition to starring, Angarano also directed the feature and co-wrote the script with Chris Smith.

They privately got married

Though the couple hasn’t publicly revealed when they got married, Erskine openly referred to Angarano as her husband during various press interviews for her seriesMr. and Mrs. Smithin February 2024.

Whileappearing on theTodayshow, both Erskine and her costar Donald Glover shared howtheir respective marriagesoffscreen played a role in developing their characters’ onscreen marriage. Glover explained, “There’s a lot of little bits in it that I was like, ‘This is what me and my wife do. And you were like, ‘Yeah, me and my husband kinda…’”

While attending the Emmys in September 2024, Erskine revealed that she and Angarano had recentlywelcomed their second child.
