The general public is in the thick of spooky season right now, but apparently if you’re royal, it’s spooky season all the time — at least when you’re at home.
In the Amazon Prime documentaryThe King of UFOs, paranormal historian Richard Felix claims thatQueen Elizabeth,King CharlesandPrince Williamhave all had experiences with ghosts — because royal residences are apparently full of them.
“All of their properties have ghosts in them, and they know it and have witnessed it,” he said.
“The late Queen saw her namesake Queen Elizabeth in the library at Windsor Castle. The King has seen the same ghost, and his grandfather George VI saw Queen Elizabeth eight times in the library before the start of the Second World War.” (The most recent Queen Elizabeth was Queen Elizabeth II; Queen Elizabeth I lived from 1553 to 1603.)

Speaking onHello! A Right Royal Podcastin October 2023, Felix — a veteran ghost tour guide in the U.K. — specifically mentioned Prince William andKate Middleton’s country home, Anmer Hall, a stately Georgian mansion in Norfolk that was a wedding present from Queen Elizabeth when the two married in 2011. It has since become a beloved retreat for William and Kate, both 42, and their childrenPrince George, 11,Princess Charlotte, 9, andPrince Louis, 6.
“When the Prince and Princess of Wales moved into Anmer Hall, it’s more or less on the Sandringham Estate, there was a ghost there of a Catholic priest that lived there and was hanged, drawn and quartered for high treason, and for some reason, has returned to his home,” Felix said on the show.

“Although he was executed in York, they’ve actually heard his voice. And they have seen the ghost of what they say is a priest, wandering around Anmer Hall,” he added. “Before the Waleses moved in, they were warned about the ghost, and the comment was, I presume it was from Prince William, he said, ‘No old hall would be complete without a ghost, would it?’ ”
Felix was likely referring to Henry Walpole, the Jesuit priest who was executed in 1595 for his faith, according toThe Tudor Society. According to legend, he returned to his family’s home — Anmer Hall — after his death, and his spirit has been seen roaming the grounds.
“They live with their ghosts because people do,” Felix said onThe King of UFOsdocumentary. “Most people aren’t afraid of ghosts when they are in their houses — they just accept them.”

After King George VI died, renowned psychic Lilian Bailey “found herself being whisked off to a private seance for a mystery group of people,” according toTatler. “She was taken blindfolded from her home in Wembley to a house in Kensington, where she went into a trance and imparted various messages from the afterlife.”
After she came to following her trance, she was allowed to take her blindfold off, and “was astonished” to see Queen Elizabeth, her sisterPrincess Margaret, her husbandPrince Philip, Princess Alexandria and the Duke of Kent staring back at her.
