Andrew Garfield Reveals He Uses His British Accent for 'the First Time' inWe Live in Time

Andrew Garfieldhas been acting for the screen professionally for nearly two decades, but it is not often he gets to act in his native accent.

In a recentTikTokvideo uploaded to the official account for Garfield’s new movieWe Live in Time, both he and costarFlorence Pughadmitted that they rarely perform with the natural English accents they generally speak in off-camera.

“This is my second movie doing my own voice, but it has been a long time,” Pugh, 28, said in the video, in response to a user who noted both stars' natural voices in the film.

“In fact, many people think that when I speak in my accent in interviews that I’m lying and I’m putting on a fake one,” Pugh continued. “And that is the truth.”

“How about you? How about that?” she asked Garfield, 41, who took a moment to consider the question before agreeing.

“I think it’s the first time, maybe, I’m using my — yeah, yeah, that’s true, I think that’s true, yeah, yeah, yeah,” he said.

Garfield holds dual British and American citizenship. Born in Los Angeles to an American father and British mother; he began living in Surrey, England, at age three, asEsquirereported in a recent profile on the actor. Despite his English roots, Garfield’s best known movies —The Social Network,The Amazing Spider-ManandHacksaw Ridgeamong them — see him perform with an American accent.
