Trisha Tobias’ thrilling debut novel will hit shelves soon.PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the cover of Tobias’ forthcoming book,Honeysuckle and Bone. The novel will come out next year through Sweet July Books, the publishing branch ofAyesha Curry’s lifestyle brandSweet July, and an imprint of Zando.A young adult psychological horror novel,Honeysuckle and Bonefollows Carina Marshall, a teenager once at the center of rumors and online hate. Hoping for a fresh start, Carina travels to Jamaica, her mother’s homeland and takes a nannying job for the powerful Hall family, at their home at Blackbead House.

Carina begins to settle into her new life, where she attempts to avoid the tension between members of the Hall family and make new friends, including the charming Aaron. But when strange and unexplainable occurrences begin, Carina comes to understand that something — or someone — is plotting her demise. With the help of Aaron, Carina must figure out what’s really haunting the halls of Blackbead House, before it’s too late.

“I’m delighted to present Trisha Tobias’s debutHoneysuckle and Bone, a YA horror novelset against the sticky heat, sweet aromas and lush landscape of Jamaica,” Curry, 35, tells PEOPLE in a statement. “This rich story grapples with themes of class, grief and cultural identity, all wrapped in a surprising mystery. It is for those reasons, and more, that I’m so proud to be publishing it as the inaugural title on the Sweet July Books list.”

“Sweet July Books was founded to publish fearless stories focused on empowering and celebrating women and BIPOC creators, a mission that is in perfect harmony with this incredible book,” Curry says.

Tobias, perher website, is a 2019-2021 Highlights Foundation Diversity Fellow and recipient of the 2018 Walter Dean Myers Grant. She writes stories that “illuminate the beauty within darkness, weaving meaningful tales with edge,” including her anticipated debut.
