When Heringer first began her search, she had in mind “a very simple, very minimalistic dress.”
“But then I had the whole experience,” she says. “I went in and a lot of the things I tried on I didn’t love. It was really hard for me to find one.”
The dress she ultimately chose was one she spotted while scrolling Instagram. The design is much more dramatic than she originally envisioned for herself.

“It has some elements on it that I think if you were to tell me, I’d be like, ‘Absolutely not.’ But then I wore it. I was like, ‘Wait, no, I actually love it!” she explains.
To keep her dress a surprise for Erb until the big day, Heringer hid the garment in the guest closet in their house.

As for Erb’s look, he also ended up choosing something unexpected — a two-tone tuxedo. He worked withDon Morphyfounder Daniel Mofor, who steered Erb toward a white jacket, paired with black pants. “I’ve never been a fan of the two colors — not for me — but I tried it on and it looked really good,” Erb says, and Heringer confirms, “It looked really, really good.”
