A 12-year-old boy has died in New Jersey after a tree fell on him in his backyard amid windy weather conditions.

On Monday, Oct. 14 at approximately 12:09 p.m. local time, Lawrence Township Police Department officers responded to calls that a tree had fallen on the youngster at the 100 block of Eldridge Avenue, areleaseconfirmed.

“Officers were able to free the juvenile from under the fallen tree and began CPR," the release read.

Per the release, the youngster had been playing outside in his backyard when the tragedy occurred.

Police confirmed the Lawrence Township School District “will have counselors available this week to assist students and staff,” along with providing therapy dogs.

Members of the Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition “will be on school grounds to provide assistance,” police added.
