A bride doesn’t want to invite her father’s wife — with whom he had an affair that led to the divorce of her parents — to her wedding.
The bride’s father had an “emotional affair” with the tutor and her parents ultimately divorced, and though the bride cleared the air with her father, he was “unapologetic” about the affair.
“Fast forward to this week, when my fiancé and I sent save the dates to our small wedding,” the bride continued, noting they were “limited to 25 people” and she was stressed about inviting her father.
“Ultimately, I decided it was my choice and ideally would like [to celebrate] with him. He asked if the invite [was] extended to my stepmom. I said no, just him. Honestly, I was shocked he even asked,” she said. “My fiancé was mad.”

The bride then received a long message from her father about how his wife was hurt about not being invited, since she is “meaningful to him.” “He said he’d like to talk after the wedding about any unresolved feelings I have about the divorce and a way to connect moving forward, including her.”

“Is your dad walking you down the aisle?” one user asked. “If not, uninvite him too.” The bride replied, “Hadn’t planned on asking him to! Now I am worried he might be assuming that LOL.”
Another person wrote: “In a wedding as small as yours, every guest counts. If you don’t want one of them to be your dad’s affair partner, then she’s out, no questions asked.”
A third agreed. “NTA. I firmly believe no one has to invite anyone to their wedding they don’t want to, and your father’s affair partner certainly doesn’t have a right to your day celebrating something she obviously doesn’t respect,” they said.
Someone else called the wedding “your father’s chance to prove he loves you.” “This woman’s presence would likely make you and others uncomfortable. It would be impossible to avoid her.”
One comment seemed to sum up how everyone thought the bride should handle the situation. “She’s not your stepmom. She’s your dad’s wife. Step mom implies some type of relationship. Take care of you,” they said.
