Brittany Mahomes Calls Out Haters After Backlash for Reportedly Liking Donald Trump's Post

Brittany Mahomesshared a message for any haters this week following social media backlash for reportedly liking a post from former PresidentDonald Trump.

The Kansas City Current co-owner, 28, uploaded a statement on her Instagram Stories on Friday, Aug. 23, in which she called out haters with “deep rooted issues.”

Outlets includingNewsweekandThe New York Postboth reported on the apparent social media like, with multiple accounts on X (formerly Twitter)sharing screenshotsandscreen-recorded videoof Mahomes' Instagram handle appearing beneath Trump’s post.

Mahomes' like does not appear on the post as of Saturday, Aug. 24 and she does not follow Trump on Instagram, nor has she openly endorsed a candidate for president.

“To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood,” the message on Mahomes' Instagram read. “There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well.”

The Aug. 13 Instagram post that Mahomes — who is married to Kansas City Chiefs quarterbackPatrick Mahomes— reportedly liked is a square graphic detailing the “2024 GOP platform,” which includes a list of 20 of Trump’s apparent talking points ahead of the election in November.

Among the list are phrases including “seal the border and stop the migrant invasion,” “keep men out of women’s sports,” “secure our elections,” and “deport pro-Hamas radicals and make our college campuses safe and patriotic.”

Just last week, the former presidentshared AI-generated imageson social media suggesting thatTaylor Swift— a friend of Mahomes — and her fans were endorsing his campaign.

The Republican presidential nominee, who is running against Democratic nomineeKamala Harris, uploaded posts including fake images of women wearing “Swifties For Trump” T-shirts on hisTruth Socialplatform, as well as a headline labeled “satire,” reading: “Swifties Turning to Trump After ISIS Foiled Taylor Swift Concert.”

The post also came alongside a fake Uncle Sam-style poster of Swift which read “Taylor Wants You to Vote for Donald Trump.” The former president captioned the image with “I accept!”

PEOPLE reached out to a representative for Swift for comment at the time.

Swift has not endorsed a 2024 presidential candidate, though she previously supported current PresidentJoe Bidenand VP Harris during their 2020 campaign.

At the time, she said inV Magazinethatthe “change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included.”
