Buffalo Bills’ Von Miller Suspended Four Games amid Allegations He Assaulted Pregnant Girlfriend

The NFL announced it was suspending Miller, 35, without pay nearly one year after allegations surfaced that the Bills defensive player had physically assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, according toESPNand theAssociated Press.

Miller will be eligible to return to the team’s lineup on Oct. 28, the league said in its statement.

Though the NFL did not specifically cite its reasoning for Miller’s suspension in the statement on Tuesday, the AP reports that it stems from the allegations of physical assault made against the Bills linebacker last November.

Miller turned himself into police on Nov. 30, 2023 after he was accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at their apartment in Dallas the night before, though no criminal charges were ever filed in connection with the allegations, PEOPLEpreviously reported.

There was an arrest warrant for a charge of third-degree felony assault against Miller at the time he turned himself in, according to ESPN. Miller has since denied the allegations, calling them “100 percent false” and claiming an investigation into the allegations was closed in July, the outlet reports.

Police were called to their residence after the alleged incident, and found “minor abrasions” on Millers' girlfriend’s hand, bruising on her abdomen and biceps, as well as marks on her neck that indicated she was choked, according to ESPN. Citing a police affidavit, the outlet reported that Miller was accused of placing both hands around her neck and choking his pregnant girlfriend before trying to shove her while she was gathering her belongings after he told her to leave.

The Associated Press reported at the time that Miller’s girlfriend repeatedly told him to stop during the alleged assault and that she was pregnant.

Miller addressed the allegations a month after he was accused of the assault and said the incident was “blown out of proportion.”

“Whatever happened, I hate that it happened. I hate my name is attached to anything like that, and it’s just a matter of time until I can clear it up,” Miller said at the time, according to the AP. “Me and my girlfriend, we have problems just like any other couple does, but there has never been any of those things that was alleged against me.”

Miller and his girlfriend have two children together, the outlet reports.
