Chris Brown Documentary Investigating His Alleged Pattern of Abuse to Premiere on ID: See the Trailer

Chris Brownis the latest to get the documentary treatment following years of abuse accusations.

“Chris Brown’s an amazing and talented musician, but let’s call a thing a thing: he’s an abuser of women. Consistently, unapologetically,” a woman can be heard saying in the trailer.

A History of Violencewill additionally feature testimony from an anonymous new victim who has not come forward publicly. There is no word that her identity will be revealed in the documentary’s official release.

At 19 years old, Brown madeheadlinesin 2009 after beating then-girlfriendRihanna. Brown was subsequentlycharged with felony assaultand making criminal threats on March 5. He pleaded guilty to a felony on June 22 of that year andaccepted a plea deal of community labor, five years' probation and domestic violence counseling. The two would go on to reunite in 2013 and briefly dated again.

Brown would then be involved in various legal troubles, including a scuffle withDrake’s entourage at a hotel, and another altercation withFrank Oceanallegedly over a parking space. Ocean declined to press charges, and seven years after the incident, Brown and Drakeparodied their own brawlas a dance battle in the 2019 music video for Brown’s song “No Guidance,” featuring Drake.

Brown went into rehab to address his substance abuse and anger in 2013. After a short quiet period, he became the center of several accusations, including accusations of battering a woman in a hotel room andthreatening another woman with a gun, the latter for which he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Charges were never filed.

In 2017, ex-girlfriendKarrueche Tranwas granted a five-year restraining order against him after sharing threatening text messages in court and alleging he physically abused her.

The following year, Brown was accused of aiding in a 2017 sexual assault that took place at his home. Jane Doe claims that the singer confiscated her phone, distributed a mysterious pill, and supplied alcohol. When her mother called the police out of concern, Brown allegedly refused to open the gate to let the police in. Brown’s lawyer denied the allegations, and in April 2020, the lawsuit was dismissed andsettled out of court.

He was accused anddetainedon suspicions of rape in 2019 andagainin 2022. Brown denied the accusations. The 2019 probe was later dropped, and Brownfiled a defamation suitagainst the woman and in August 2022, a judge dismissed that case, perNBC Palm Springs.
