Daisy Ridleycouldn’t keep details of her upcomingStar Warsstoryline secret from husbandTom Bateman.
“He knows the story,” she says, joking that he “swore to secrecy.”
“It’s also interesting because there are so many more intricacies than one might [think],” continues Ridley. “If I’m describing something to you, the actual reality of what it is might be quite different. But he does know the story.”

The actress, who notes she’s not too much of a “revealer” when it comes to spoilers, says returning to theStars Warsfranchise after 2019’sRise of Skywalker, 2017’sThe Last Jediand 2015’sThe Force Awakenswas an easy decision due to getting to work “with a crew I love and a cast I love.”
“Coming back to it, I mean, it felt, honestly, I was like, ‘Oh my God, really?’ I was really surprised whenKathleen [Kennedy]asked, but how could I not? I mean, I love [Rey] as a character, and I love the films. I love the potential of the next one,” says Ridley.

The movie star, who stars in the new thrillerMagpie,says she has always felt “very involved” in the development of Rey.
“I’m involved. But also it is a funny thing, though. It is strange, the ownership thing, because I do attribute so much of it to so many other people. AndJ.J. [Abrams]created her, and obviously I inhabit her,” says Ridley.

“Performing is so interesting because in the morning how your morning goes is how you’re set up for the day. So you have amazing hair and makeup people and amazing costume people and then you are like, okay, I’m in the right zone to go and do this day,” she adds. “So I feel like performance is at the time of so many different things that I always felt really like I shared her with a lot of people in that way.”
Ridley met her actor husband while costarring together in 2017’sMurder on the Orient Express. Bateman wrote her new filmMagpie, which is in select theaters Oct. 25.
