Former Indiana Deputy Dies in Freak Lawnmower Accident: 'Profound Void'

A former Indiana sheriff’s deputy died on Wednesday, Aug. 7, reportedly from an accident involving a lawnmower.

TheSpencer County Sheriff’s Officeconfirmed Klem’s death in a Facebook post on Thursday, Aug. 8, saying that her sudden passing has left a “profound void.”

“Amanda served the Sheriff’s office with unwavering dedication and professionalism for nearly seven years, making a lasting impact on all who knew her,” the statement continued. “Her kindness, strength, and commitment to public service were evident every day, and she will be remembered for her compassionate spirit and the joy she brought to those around her.”

In its statement, the sheriff’s office offered thoughts and prayers to Klem’s family, including her husband Ted and their daughter Madison.

“Rest in peace, Amanda,” the sheriff’s office concluded its post. “Your memory will forever be cherished, and your spirit will continue to inspire us.”

Per WJTS, Ted Klem, Amanda’s husband, serves as a corporal with the Huntingburg Police Department.In an Aug. 7 Facebook post, the department shared an illustration of a police badge that read “A. Klem EOW 8/7/24” (EOW stands for “end of watch”).

Spencer County Sheriff Sherri Heichelbech told WEVV that Klem received a life-saving award during an emergency incident sometime in 2020. As for how the sheriff’s office will honor Klem and her family, Heichelbech said: “Everything is so fresh right now. But it wouldn’t surprise me that there isn’t some account that it’s made for her daughter Madison, for future education.”
