Williams, 28, recently moved back to his hometown of Columbia, S.C., to take a job as a dance teacher, a source close to the actor tells PEOPLE.
He was last seen at his home on Thursday, Oct. 3., the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said in a release, and was reported missing the following day.
Police say Williams was last seen driving around the Congaree National Park in central South Carolina.
Family members initially believed that he had been in a car accident, after they were made aware of an SOS alert from his phone that indicated he had been in a crash, police confirmed to PEOPLE. They received the ping, Williams' aunt Christine McLaughlin Barber told authorities, through a friend in New York who noted that the message was sent within ten minutes of Williams leaving the house.
