It Ends with Us' Brandon Sklenar Found Out About 'Ridiculous' Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman Interview Prank on the Day of: 'Insane'

Brandon Sklenaris learning just how muchRyan ReynoldsandHugh Jackmanlove a good joke.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the New York City premiere of his new film,It Ends with Us, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, the actor, 34, shared his reaction to theDeadpool & Wolverinecostars ambushing him for a hilariously awkward interview earlier in the day.

In the upcoming film, which is an adaptation ofColleen Hoover’s 2016 book of the same title, Sklenar stars as Atlas Corrigan, Lily’s (Blake Lively) high school boyfriend who reappears as she starts her adult life and new relationship.

Ahead of the red carpet premiere in the Big Apple, Reynolds, 47, who is married to Lively, 36, posted a funnyvideoto social media of himselfcrashing Sklenar’s press day.

Early on in the clip, which Ryan posted to his Instagram account, he questions Sklenar about playing his wife’s on-camera lover.

“It’s not every day the husband gets to interview his wife’s love interest in a film. It’s kind of crazy,” Ryan began.

He continued, “So I saw you posing in a photo with Mrs. Reynolds — I’m sorry, what do you call her, do you guys have a nickname or something?”

Sklenar tells PEOPLE he was equally surprised to see theX-Menstar also come into the interview room and question him.

“First time I knew about any of that was on the day, and the first time I was reading it is while we’re doing it,” Sklenar says.

During the bit, Jackman sat across from the actor and called him “the guy trying to replace Ryan as a husband and me as his best mate.”

According to Sklenar, Ryan and Jackman were a hilarious duo, but he couldn’t quite keep up with their jokes on the fly.

“Ryan’s so fast,” he says, adding, “I’m trying to come up with jokes and my brain is like a snail.”

One of the things that popped into Sklenar’s head during his time with Jackman was the actor’s 2012 role in the musicalLes Misérables, which Sklenar complimented Jackman on in the social media clip.

“But that guy’s just ridiculous. He’s ridiculous,” Sklenar tells PEOPLE. “He’s insane.”

And as if Jackman joining Ryan for the prank wasn’t hilarious enough, the pair kept their bromance going that evening whenJackman also attended the New York City premiereand walked the carpet for the event.

It Ends with Usarrives in theaters on Aug. 9.
