Jennie Garth and Leslie Grossman Say They're Both Up for aWhat I Like About YouReboot

Nearly 20 years afterWhat I Like About Youwrapped, starsJennie GarthandLeslie Grossmanare open to reviving the early-2000s sitcom.

On the most recent episode of Garth’s podcastI Choose Me, Grossman joined theBeverly Hills, 90210alumna to reminisce about their time on the WB show, which aired for four seasons between 2002 and 2006.

Grossman, who most recently appeared in Netflix’sMonsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez StoryandNobody Wants This, said that being onWhat I Like About Youwas one of the best work experiences she’s ever had.

“I remember one day walking up to my dressing room, and I just had this, like, feeling where I was like, ‘I feel very grateful for this. I feel very, very, very grateful to be here and for this,’ ” she recalled. “And I felt that all the time on that job. I just loved who I worked with. It was sort of a joyous place to be.”

“I was so excited to have you there to play with because I felt like we were the grown-ups,” Garth, who playedAmanda Bynes’ teenage character’s straight-laced older sister on the show, said. “And I didn’t like that feeling because I was not — had never had that feeling before. And so, I was so happy to have a fellow grown-up with me to play with every day and to do these fun scenes with. We had so much fun.”

Grossman likened her own character, Lauren, toLisa Kudrow’s Aunt Sassy inThe Comeback.

“You took on the Aunt Sassy, and I was like the big sister that wasn’t that fun,” Garth agreed.

“I also felt like the way that everybody felt about each other on that show really came through,” Grossman added. “Like, we genuinely enjoyed being around each other. And so, I felt like that absolutely translated and why people responded the way that they did.”

Grossman said she still hears from fans for whomWhat I Like About Youwas a “comfort show.”

With so many fond memories, Garth wondered if it might be time for a reboot.

Garth noted that the two have talked about the possibility of rebootingWhat I Like About Youbefore, and that there are “reasons why we can’t do it the way it was done.” Chiefly, she pointed out, there’s the decline in popularity of the classic multi-camera sitcom format in which the original was made. “The multi-camera art is so close to dying,” she said.

“I do think for everybody involved in that show, it was a real sweet spot, you know what I mean? Where people were really at their best,” Grossman added. “I have so much affection for that part of our lives, and just amongst the cast — everybody was sort of firing off on all cylinders and everybody had such great chemistry together. So, yes, I am open to all the things, Jennie. Yeah.”
