Jennifer Hudsonwill always rememberWhitney Houston.

On Oct. 6, theDreamgirlsstar, 43, took the stage to perform a powerful medley, including “I Will Always Love You,” at theAmerican Music Awards50th Anniversary Special in L.A.

While the rendition was nothing short of breathtaking, Hudson’s look was just as special, as it paid homage to an ensemble Houston wore onstage during the 1994 AMAs. The late icon won 22 American Music Awards, including the Award of Merit in 1994, over the course of her career.

Houston’s look from 30 years ago had a similar silhouette and featured a sweeping cape and turtleneck.

On her connection toThe Bodyguardstar, theAmerican Idolalum said that she always resonated with Houston’s “gospel.”

“I don’t think I can recall a time [when] I didn’t know of Whitney,” she added.
