The pair dated for five years before marrying in 2017, and within a year, theywelcomed their first child together, daughter Giulietta. Chastain and Passi de Preposulo expanded their family with the addition of their second child, son Augustus, in 2020.

When confirming the news of her daughter’s birthon Instagramin December 2018, Chastain opened up about her love of motherhood.

“I know that I haven’t been as present on insta this past year. Thank you all for respecting my privacy while I was blessed with the gift of becoming a mother,” she wrote alongside her most liked photos from the year. “I must say that 2018 has been the best year of my life. So much love and joy to all of you.”

Although Chastain prefers to keep her kids' lives private, she brought Giulietta and Augustus to the2024 Paris Olympicswhere they watched the women’s artistic gymnastics qualifiers in July 2024.

Chastain and Passi de Preposulo welcomed their first child, daughter Giulietta Chastain Passi, on April 4, 2018.

When Giulietta was 2, Chastain showed off the toddler’simpressive collection of dollscreated in the likeness of women in politics, which includedRuth Bader Ginsburg,Elizabeth WarrenandKamala Harris.

“A lot of kids play with Marvel characters and Barbies and that’s fine, but my kid … she plays with superheroes,” Chastain wrote alongside a since-deleted video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

In December 2022, Chastain gave insight into how she is raising Giulietta. Speaking withMarie Claire, the actress recalled a chat she had with her firstborn about dreaming big.

“I had a conversation with my daughter not that long ago,” she said. “When you’re talking to kids it’s like, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ … And she was like, ‘I want to be a mama.’ And I was like, ‘That’s a great thing to be. But you know,you can be more than one thing.’ She’s like, ‘What do you mean?’ "

“I said, ‘Well, look at me, honey. I’m a mama. I’m an actress. I’m a producer. I’m a business owner. I’m a friend. I’m a cook.’ I started listing all these things,” Chastain continued. “You can be the president. You can be a ballerina. You can be a mama. And it was so shocking for her to hear all of this.”

Chastain is also teaching Giulietta to see the beauty in imperfection. During an interview withIndieWirein July 2023, she revealed that while doing research for her role inGeorge & Tammy,she discovered that singerTammy Wynettewasn’t always on pitch, which was “beautiful” to her.

“If you look at reality, what music has been in the past is not perfect. I tell my daughter nothing is perfect,” she explained. “Beauty doesn’t lie in perfection.”

Chastain and Passi de Preposulo quietly welcomed their second child, son Augustus Chastain Passi, in 2020.

Two years later, Chastain confirmed the toddler’s name when she thanked her husband and kids inher acceptance speechfor Best Actress forThe Eyes of Tammy Fayeat the 2022 Oscars.

“Il mio tesoro (my darling), Giulietta, Augustus, you are my heart,” she said. “Thank you all very very much. Thank you.”

After becoming a mother of two, Chastain opened up toEntertainment Tonightin January 2022 about making the set for her movieThe 355suitable for working moms.

“I love bringing families on set,” she told the outlet. “We had a trailer that was for children, and how wonderful that, yes we can be successful and wonderful at our work, but we can also not have to shut down part of our life in order to do so.”
