Jessica Simpson Says She Put Up with 'Everything I Did Not Deserve' in Cryptic Post About 'Personal' Music Comeback

Making music is an “irresistible” activity forJessica Simpson.

“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” the 44-year-old singer and entrepreneur wrote in the post’s caption.

“This comeback is personal,” added Simpson, “It’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”

Since launching into pop stardom as a teenager, the businesswoman has released seven studio albums: 1999’sSweet Kisses, 2001’sIrresistible, 2003’sIn This Skin, 2004’sReJoyce: The Christmas Album, 2006’sA Public Affair, 2008’sDo You Knowand 2010’sHappy Christmas.

In September, Simpsonspoke to PEOPLE about her eponymous brand’s fall/holiday 2024 clothing and shoe collectionand how she drew inspiration from dressing for the studio as she makes new music in Tennessee.

“If I dress the part of what I am feeling artistically I am better able to express myself in the words and music I am writing,” she said at the time. “…Lots of fringe, lots of turquoise, high heels and lots of slip dresses, short and long! I kind of created my own style based on the songs I am singin’.”

Simpson previously opened up about spending more time in Nashville and creating new music in the city for a November 2023 cover story interview withFootwear News, telling the outlet she plans to release a new album and tour this year.

“It’s like a retreat for me. I get to just crawl up inside my head and embrace my heart,” said Simpson of living and creating music from Tennessee at the time. “I feel so enlightened there.”

“Writing music has become a beautiful therapeutic thing for me that I didn’t know was so natural, but it’s because I haven’t done it in so long,” she told the outlet, noting that she’d written over 400 poems throughout 2023.

“It’s just nice to know that I’m meeting myself back in this place, as a woman, and after going through everything that I’ve been through in my life,” continued the formerNewlywedsstar. “There’s a sense of freedom and empowerment.”

In addition to new music, Simpson — who shares sonAce Knute, 12, and daughtersBirdie Mae, 5, andMaxwell Drew, 11, with husbandEric Johnson— is also in the process ofmaking a documentary series about her lifewith Gunpowder & Sky.

“I am looking forward to reconnecting and sharing my heart with all those who might need it in the hope that we can inspire each other and move forward on our parallel journeys,” said Simpson.
