Jimmie Allenand Alexis Gale have been estranged since 2023.

The couplefiled for divorcein April 2023 — just three months before Allenwelcomed twinswith another woman. Then, in September 2023, Gale gave birth to her and Allen’sthird child.

Both natives of Milton, Del., Gale and Allen met through a relative in the spring of 2019 and began dating. By that summer, they were engaged.

The coupletied the knotin May 2021 and went on to welcome two daughters, Naomi Bettie and Zara James, and a son, Cohen Ace James. Allen and Gale officiallyfinalized their divorcein October 2024.

Allen and Gale first connected through Allen’s cousin’s wife. While Allen had liked several of Gale’s photos on Facebook and Instagram, they didn’t meet until much later.

“I had this whole thing put together that I was going to say,” Allen later told PEOPLE oftheir first encounterat his cousin’s house. “Smooth Jimmie was ready, but he didn’t show up. I ain’t say nothing. I just looked at her, said ‘Hi,’ then put my head down and kept talking to my cousin. Finally, when we were leaving, I grabbed her phone and said, ‘This your phone?’ " Allen then used that opportunity to give Gale his number.

Gale was finishing up nursing school at the time, and Allen helped her study for her licensing exams. “It made me realize — this is someone who really cares about me, who cares about my future even though he’s still working on his,” Gale recalled.

July 15, 2019: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale get engaged

After a few months of dating,Allen proposedto Gale in front of the Cinderella Castle in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The couple’s relatives and friends were present when Allen popped the question.

“With Alexis being from my hometown, it is like always having a piece of home with me,” Allen told PEOPLE at the time. “We had an immediate connection. It was like we’d always known each other.”

During an appearance onThe Ty Bentli Show, Allen shared that he and Gale had welcomed their daughterNaomi Bettieon March 1 — the same day his hit song “Make Me Want To” topped the charts. Naomi’s middle name, Bettie, was chosen after Allen’s grandmother.

“I thought getting a No. 1 was going to be the best part of my day, but then my daughter, Naomi, was born,” the singer said.

May 27, 2021: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale get married

Allen and Galetied the knoton May 27, 2021, at The Lake House Inn in Perkasie, Pennsylvania. A few days later, they both posted photos from their big day on Instagram.

The pair later revealed to PEOPLE that they held a secret,private ceremonyone year prior on Allen’s birthday in June 2020. “Being Mr. and Mrs. publicly has been exciting. It’s a second honeymoon stage for us,” Gale said.

Later that month, Allen revealed onThe Sam Alex Showthatthey were expecting another girl. He added that he wanted to name her Arya Stark afterMaisie Williams' character onGame of Thrones.

“We do not have a name ‘cause we were preparing for a boy, so we don’t have a girl name,” he said. “I wanna name her Arya Stark Allen because I’m a hugeGame of Thronesfan but Lex ain’t lettin’ that happen! So I don’t know what we’re gonna call her.”

June 18, 2021: Alexis Gale pens a birthday message to Jimmie Allen

Galeshared a galleryof photos, including some wedding pictures, to celebrate Allen’s 36th birthday — and their first anniversary as husband and wife. “You fill every ounce of my soul with happiness, laughter, and love. August 13, 2021: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale are featured in the PEOPLE family issue

In August 2021, the couple sat down with PEOPLE for the family issue and shared how excited they were towelcome their second daughter. “That’s like nine more years of Disney princesses!” Allen said. “I’m obsessed with Disney World. I’ve always wanted to go inside a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique.”

Allen also discussed how Gale changed his views on marriage. “I wanted to be a dad,” he said. “But I never wanted to get married. Alexis changed that.”

The country singerpublished a children’s booktitledMy Voice Is a Trumpetone month prior, and he revealed that it was the first time he had “written something” for his kids.

October 16, 2021: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale welcome their second daughter Zara James

Allen and Gale welcomed their second daughter,Zara James, on Oct. 16, 2021, in Nashville. Allen confirmed the news in anInstagram post, writing, “The new addition to our family is here and we couldn’t be happier to finally meet her. Alexis, you’re a champion, I love you, and so thankful for you.”

Later that month, Gale penned anemotional tribute to her daughteron Instagram. “I couldn’t imagine these last two weeks without you in my arms. You have completed our family and have already taught me so many things about patience, opening yourself up to receive more love and balance,” the mom of two wrote in the caption. She then opened up about her struggles with anxiety and depression during the pregnancy.

March 7, 2022: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale say they won’t have any more children

Ahead of the ACM Awards, Allen spoke withEntertainment Tonightabout parenthood and becoming a family of five. “Going from two to three is a big jump,” he said. “It’s cool, we love ‘em and we’re just definitely thankful for our kids. For sure,we feel outnumbered, yeah. We are.”

He added, “I’m cool if she’s done. My jerseys are retired, but then we did talk about maybe in a couple of years having another one, but we’ll kind of just see. Whatever happens, happens.”

December 7, 2022: Jimmie Allen and Alexis Gale reflect on daughter Zara’s health scare

Allen and Gale spoke to PEOPLE about their daughter Zara’sexperience with RSVin December 2022, sharing that she “went completely blue.”

Gale explained that Zara got sick shortly after her older sister Naomi did. “When they’re that young, they’re always sick every other day and get us sick, so we didn’t really think too much about it,” she told PEOPLE. “And then Zara was sick a little longer, probably close to two weeks, and I was a little concerned about it.”

When Zara wasn’t getting any better, Gale said she knew something wasn’t right.

While the couple described the experience as “scary,” Zara made a full recovery and they are now partnering with Know RSV to raise awareness of the illness. “I feel like that’s our job as parents,” Allen said of the partnership. “Because everything we know now, someone else shared with us — whether it was anything about any sort of sickness, whether it’s things about sports, whether it’s about finances, whatever. It’s because someone else took the time to share it with you.”

On Instagram, Allen announced that he and Galedecided to end their marriage.

“After much thought and reflection in recent months, Lex & I have made the decision to separate,” he told his followers.

The country singer also revealed that the couple are expecting a third child together.

“As we navigate this life change, we can also share that we will be welcoming another child together later this year,” Allen wrote. “Our number one priority is and always will be ensuring that our children are healthy, happy and loved, and we remain committed to co-parenting with love and respect for one another.”

April 25, 2023: Alexis Gale unfollows Jimmie Allen on Instagram

Shortly after announcing their split,Gale unfollowed Allen on Instagramand posted a cryptic note.

“The silence is loud enough for me,” she wrote atop an all-black background on her Instagram Story. As of now, Allen still follows Gale on the social media platform.

May 11, 2023: Jimmie Allen’s former manager sues him for assault and sexual abuse

Allen’s former day-to-day manager, who is identified as Jane Doe in court documents,filed a lawsuitagainst the country singer, alleging that he sexually abused her on several occasions.

The CMA winner allegedly raped Jane Doe on a work trip to Los Angeles in March 2021. Then, in May 2021, the Grammy-nominated singer allegedly assaulted the plaintiff again before appearing onTheEllen DeGeneresShow.

Allen denies these allegations and claims.

“It is deeply troubling and hurtful that someone I counted as one of my closest friends, colleagues and confidants would make allegations that have no truth to them whatsoever,” he said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Allen continued: “I acknowledge that we had a sexual relationship — one that lasted for nearly two years. During that time, she never once accused me of any wrongdoing, and she spoke of our relationship and friendship as being something she wanted to continue indefinitely. Only after things ended between us, did she hire a lawyer to reach out and ask for money, which leads me to question her motives. The simple fact is, her accusations are not only false, but also extremely damaging. I’ve worked incredibly hard to build my career, and I intend to mount a vigorous defense to her claims and take all other legal action necessary to protect my reputation.”

Prior to the lawsuit, Alexis Galeposted a cryptic messageon her Instagram Story — alluding to the fact that people were trying to corroborate Jane Doe’s story.

“Continue the chaos while I heal in peace,” she wrote. “My Instagram isn’t a help line so please stop messaging me about any third parties.”

On Mother’s Day, Gale revealed that she and Allen are expecting a boy.

May 18, 2023: Jimmie Allen apologizes to Alexis Gale on social media

Allen publicly apologized to Galefor “humiliating her with my affair” in an Instagram post.

“I’m embarrassed that my choices have brought shame on her. That’s something that she did not deserve at all,” the Grammy-nominated singer’s note read.

He also apologized to his children “for being a poor example of a man and a father,” adding, “I’m working on becoming a better person that my kids can be proud of.”

July 13, 2023: Jimmie Allen says he and Alexis Gale are “working to resolve things” amid divorce

During a conversation with PEOPLE, Allen hinted that he and Gale might reconcile.

“The divorce case is still pending, as my wife and I areworking to resolve thingstogether as a family,” he said.

The country star went on to add that his top priority is making sure his wife and kids are “OK” as he faces two sexual assault lawsuits.

On Instagram, Allen revealed that hewelcomed twins, Amari and Aria, with another woman while married to Gale.

The twins arrived in July 2023 — just a few months after Gale and Allen filed for divorce.
