Jurassic World: Chaos Theoryis back for season 2 — and so is Brooklynn!

“Historically we’ve been limited in terms of opportunity," he says. “And so a show like this is truly breaking barriers and giving us opportunities that have been seldom forthcoming in the past.”

Kreamer adds: “When we made the decision to tell a story featuring Brooklyn, one of our lead characters acquiring a limb difference, we wanted to tell that story authentically.”

Kelly echoes that.

“I think being a part of the show and having authentic representation within the show as well just showcases how much your projects and society can benefit from equal opportunity and including people with disabilities,” she says.

The changes Kelly’s character faces ties into the upcoming storyline, too.

“It raises the stakes,” Kreamer says. “It explains why people would’ve thought she was dead. And it gives us an opportunity to give visibility and representation to a vastly underrepresented community. So that’s kind of how it came about.”

“I love Brooklynn so much” because “her disability doesn’t define her,” Kelly tells PEOPLE. “And it’s not her entire story. She is a very complex person and there’s a lot of depth, and she’s becoming an adult and she’s living on this island, and she’s trying to navigate who she wants to be.”

“And I think that’s amazing, especially in a series regular, because you don’t see disability representation,” she continues.

An official synopsis states that the second season picks up “six years after the events atCamp Cretaceous” and sees the main characters “reunited” but “on the run and catapulted into a global adventure to unravel a conspiracy that threatens dinosaur and humankind alike and finally learn the truth about what happened to one of their own.”

In a clip for season 2 ofJurassic World: Chaos Theory, fans see Brooklynn camping out in an uninhabited apartment building which sits across from who she suspects to be a dinosaur broker responsible for her near-fatal season 1 attack.

“The whole franchise is built on wonder, terror, humor and action," Kreamer, the showrunner, tells PEOPLE. “There’s so many of those things. And we try to honor all of that. We are a little part of this giant franchise, which also means so much to so many people.”
