Justin Theroux and Drew Barrymore Remember Sending Each Other to the Hospital While FilmingCharlie's Angels

Drew BarrymoreandJustin Therouxhad painfully good chemistry in 2003’sCharlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.Literally.

In an interview with Barrymore, 49, on the Sept. 11 episode ofThe Drew Barrymore Show,Theroux, 53, recalled a “big fight scene” that they filmed when she first injured him.

InCharlie’s Angels: Full Throttle— which also starredCameron DiazandLucy Liu— Barrymore, who played Dylan Sanders, one of the three angels, said that she and theBeetlejuice Beetlejuiceactor played “ex-boyfriend and girlfriend” in the film.

“We had this large fight sequence [where Drew] was wearing these … heel boots,” Theroux explained. “Then [she was] supposed to just kick me into some barrels, so Drew just hauls back and kicks me as hard as she can and goes right into my chest plate and breaks it.”

He also remembered that Barrymore said that it was a “fantastic” cut, but he recalled it as “the worst thing ever."

Later, theNever Been Kissedactress said that her “tailbone cracked into the chair and broke” after “Justin kicked me into that chair and I forgot to put my tailbone pad in.” But despite their respective injuries on set, the pair have been able to maintain their friendship for more than 25 years.

Barrymore previously revisited hericonic makeup look from theCharlie’s Angels: Full Throttlepromo tour from the early aughts back in April. With the help of hairstylistChris Appletonand makeup artistCharlotte Tilbury, she was able to recreate the glam for a segment onThe Drew Barrymore Show.

In the behind-the-scenes clips, Barrymore said she felt like she “just got put in a time machine and I’m back 20 years ago” and added that it was “good to know I can look like a Charlie’s Angel again.”

In 2022, Barrymore said in an episode of theDrew’s Newspodcast that she would reprise her role as Dylan Sanders “in a heartbeat”

“I would be surprised if any one of us ever decreed that we wouldn’t [do a third movie],” she said on the episode, nodding to costars Diaz and Liu. “[But] the answeris an emphatic yes. I will always say yes."
