On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Theroux, 53, and his fiancée Bloom, 30, were seen holding hands as they took a walk near Washington Square Park in New York City. TheBeetlejuice Beetlejuiceactor wore a white t-shirt, dark-washed jeans and black boots, with a matching hat and sunglasses on the stroll, while Bloom wore a black shirt and blue jeans with a white bag slung over her shoulder.

Theroux, who was previously married toJennifer Anistonfrom 2015 to 2018, proposed to Bloom in Italy in August while the couple were overseas for the81st Venice International Film Festival. PEOPLEconfirmed the pair’s engagementas they hit the red carpet for Tim Burton’sBeetlejuiceBeetlejuiceworld premiere.

He and Bloom, known best for her role on HBO’sThe Gilded Age, were first seen spending time together at a Netflix event at the New York City social club Zero Bond in early 2023. The couple were then seensharing a kissin August 2023 at Altro Paradiso in Manhattan, months before making their red carpet debut together atVanity Fair’s Oscars Partyin March 2024.

Theroux, who has in the past expressed astrong desire to keep his relationships private, recently opened up about how he and Bloom first met during an appearance onThe Drew Barrymore Show. “A friend of ours was having sort-of a party at their restaurant, bar,” he said, adding, “The first impression was wow,” when host Drew Barrymore asked what he initially thought of his now-fiancée.

“And then a friend of mine who was with me, literally the quote, [they] said, ‘That’s the one.’ Like, we hadn’t even met yet,” he said. “And I was like, ‘She’s so stunning.’ So I went over and started talking and things like that and it progressed.”

Bloom most recently shared an image of Theroux on social media on Sept. 10, when she posted a photo ofInstagramof her and theMulholland Driveactor smiling against a tennis court backdrop at the 2024 U.S. Open.
