Katie shared on herInstagram Storieson Saturday, Sept. 7, that she inscribed their initials into the side of her wedding band to commemorate her two brothers, who werekilled in a bike accidenton Aug. 29 just one day before her wedding was supposed to take place.
She shared a closeup of her new wedding ring in a black and white photo, which featured the inscription “J & M.” She could be seen holding the ring with the new inscription between her fingers as she held it up to the camera.
“Forever with me now. J&M” she wrote over the photo.

“They were so excited for us to get married. When the day comes they are going to be dancing and celebrating more than anyone,” she wrote in an Instagram Stories message on Sept. 3.
She also paid tribute to the immoveable “bond” between Johnny, who was a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey player, their brother Matthew and the rest of their family in a separateposton Instagram, alongside photos of the family over the years.
To know these two was to love these two," she wrote. “There are absolutely no words I have to express the bond my family shared. The entire world knows there would never have been a John without Matty or Matty without John. The absolute best big brothers a little girl could have asked for.”

Matthew and Johnny were killed at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, when a driversuspected of being under the influence of alcoholstruck them as he attempted to pass another vehicle, New Jersey State Police told PEOPLE. They were biking in their hometown, where they were set to serve as groomsmen for Katie’s wedding, when the incident happened.
