On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the pop star walked the red carpet at New York’s UBS Arena with fiancéOrlando Bloombefore receiving the coveted award.
“Don’t say up too late, sweetheart. Eat your broccoli,” she said.
“I feel good. I’ve had my daughter and it’s changed my whole life,” she later added. “I feel a sense of wholeness and more grounded. I’m writing songs from a place of feeling truly empowered. Feeling truly connected to my feminine divine. It’s changed my life for the better.”

Perry is also joining icons who have won the Vanguard award, which was named afterMichael Jackson, likeShakira,Madonna,Beyoncé,The Beatles,Rihanna,Nicki Minaj,Justin Timberlake,Janet Jacksonand more.

He added, “With her game changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages. Katy’s prowess will be on full display LIVE on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”
Earlier this month, Perry showed support for Bloom, 47, at the premiere for his new filmThe Cut.
After the premiere, the actor told PEOPLE Perry “just was freaked out” when she watched the movie.
“She watched it and was like, ‘I need a stiff drink,'" he said, later adding that she cried. “She was really moved. She knew what it took.”
