Wedding bells will ring, becauseKing Charles' “hot equerry” Lt. Col. Jonny Thompson is getting married!

On Oct. 29, it was announced inThe Timesthat the King’s right-hand man is getting married to Olivia Lewis. Thompson became a social media sensation after King Charles’ accession in September 2022 when a video of him went viral onTikTok. He lit up the internet again on coronation day in May 2023, and a video of the equerry helping the King change robes at Westminster Abbey has been viewed over 115,000 times onX.

“Wouldn’t this guy make a brilliant James bond!” one commenter swooned, while another playfully called for Thompson to be crowned.

It was reported earlier this year that Thompson and Lewis were dating, andThe Timesannounced their engagement Tuesday under the banner of “Forthcoming Marriages.”

“The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London,” the statement said.

In February,The Mail on Sundayreported that Thompson and Lewis, a PR executive he reportedly met while working for King Charles andQueen Camilla, had been together for about a year. The outlet said that Thompson and his wife had separated nearly two years previously, adding that he and his new partner were said to be “well-matched and very happy.”

Photos were published of the couple wearing casual clothes and walking in London, holding hands.

While Thompson and Lewis' nuptials won’t technically be a royal wedding, there could be royal guests. The senior aide stepped into the spotlight for his affiliation with the British royal family in 2018, when he escortedQueen Elizabethfor a battalion review atBalmoral Castle. He rose through the ranks to become the Queen’s most senior bodyguard and was Super Equerry to King Charles upon her death in September 2022,Tatlerreported.

Thompson got the internet talking in September 2022 when a fan-filmed video of the suit-clad soldier walking through the gates of Buckingham Palace — apparently on his way to work! — lit up TikTok with over 8.6 million views.

“I saw ‘Major eye candy,’ " blogger UK Travel wrote below the video, and the nickname stuck. Thompson was ranked third onTatler’s 2023 Social Power Index, the same year he was promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel.

The dashing officer from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland was front and center for many milestones of the first year of King Charles' reign, from joining the King and Queen on theirfirst state visit abroadto playing a prominent role during the coronation last year at Westminster Abbey, where he watched overPrince Georgeand Charles’ other three Pages of Honor as they carried his ceremonial robes.

His royal role shifted several months later. In February,The Timesreported that the senior aide famed as the “hot equerry” moved into a new post following the frenzy. A palace source told the outlet that Thompson “remains senior equerry to the King and the Queen, in a more executive and less public-facing role.”

The outlet said the dedicated equerry is “understood not to have enjoyed the public attention he received after attending several high-profile events with the King.”
