Lauryn Hill Feels 'Disappointed' About U.S. Tour Cancellation as She Confirms 'Ticket Sales' Caused the Move

In a statementshared to social mediaon Wednesday, Aug. 7, the “Ex Factor” singer, 49, opened up about the decision to cancel the shows, confirmed rumors that low ticket sales caused the move and assured fans her planned United Kingdom and Europe dates will still occur in the fall.

“With difficulty the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates. The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned,” wrote Hill, who was set to perform in North America withWyclef JeanandPras Michelof the Fugees from Friday, Aug. 9 through Sept. 21.

“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” added the Grammy winner, referring tothe tour’s previous postponement in November 2023 due to vocal issues.

Hill claimed a “penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines” in media coverage of last year’s tour postponement “seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.”

The “Ready or Not” performer explained that her upcoming overseas shows, held as part of the tour celebrating her 1999 albumThe Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, will mark the first time the celebratory run has hit the U.K. and Europe. Both territories, she continued, “also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years!”

“Performing for my fans, is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time,” wrote Hill. “Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”

“Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us,” she noted. “I love being able to bring these performances to you!”

Hill’s statement concluded, “I appreciate your understanding. We’re looking forward to performing at the shows in the UK and Europe in October — and for our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances are resolved, we’ll be back in full force…”

Earlier this week,Varietyreported Hill and the Fugees quietly canceled the tour, with ticket holders receiving messages from Live Nation on Tuesday, Aug. 6 that said, “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.”

In addition to the Fugees reunion, Hill’s son YG Marley was supposed to perform at each concert, and more special guests were to be announced at a later date.
