Loughnane jokes that officials at the time were likely saying, " ‘Sue those guys, they’re hippies smoking pot in the alley on their breaks,’ " highlighting how government at the time “didn’t want to be associated with the young whipper-snappers.”

“I figured 20, 30 million ought to cover it if they really want us back,” he shares. “In fact, the people who initially did not want to us to use that name and shied away from being around us at all are either not there anymore or passed away. So we have outlived them all.”

Loughnane also touches on other driving factors that spurred the band to shorten their moniker – legal issues aside.
