Liam Payne Shared a Rare Update on His Son Bear, 7, in the Months Before His Death

Liam Payneshared a sweet message about his son just months before his death.

The singer, 31, died after falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, Oct. 16, Policía Federal Argentinaconfirmed to PEOPLE. The incident remains under investigation, and whether his death was an accident or suicide has not yet been determined.

“I didn’t get any dad socks yet,” Payne first joked. “But I am going to speak to my son in a little bit, which I’m really excited about. Bless him.”

He continued sweetly, “He’s so big now. He’s a big boy, and he looks like a mini-me.” Payne paused before adding, “As if we need any more me in the world.”

In a statement translated from Spanish, Alberto Crescenti (the head of SAME) told Argentine news channelTNthat Payne fell into the hotel’s internal courtyard. The tragedy was said to have taken place at around 5:11 p.m. local time.
