After reciting more of the scene’s lines — and spotlighting Elle’s pink scented résumé (“I think it just adds a little something extra, don’t you?”, said Guthrie) — the anchor perfectly recreatedWitherspoon’s famous “bend and snap"move from the first film.

“Works every time,” she said, before the two pretended to go off and grab a coffee together.

Later in the episode, Guthrie and her co-anchors — who went all out for the holiday as usual, dressing as characters from iconic movies likeBeetlejuice,Titanic,Bring It On,Mrs. Doubtfire,Austin Powers,Anchorman: The Legend of Ron BurgundyandBeverly Hills Copfor this year’s “VHS Rewind” theme — spoke to Wilson about the future of theLegally Blondeuniverse.

After revealing to Guthrie andHoda Kotbthat he was “nervous” to reprise his role on the show and joking that it was “the closest I’ve gotten to doing Broadway,” the actor admitted the lines “did not come back” to him as easily as one might think — and also praised how “committed” Witherspoon, 48, was to the role of Elle in the movies.

Additionally, he gave kudos to Guthrie for her bend-and-snap move: “The form was spot-on.”

Asked about an update onLegally Blonde 3and whether he’ll be in it, Wilson told Guthrie and Kotb, 60, “Well, I hope there is. It would be really fun to do.”

“You just never know. But I bet at some point down the line, while Reese and I can still do it,” he continued, adding of their on-air recreation, “And this has to be very inspiring to Reese!”

Witherspoonconfirmed that she’s reprising her role of Ellein a third installment of the beloved franchise back in June 2018. Roughly a year later, she toldEntertainment Tonightthat she’d seen a version of the script but had yet to shoot anything.

As for a third film, “I talked to Reese a couple of years ago and some of the other cast members,” Wilson told Guthrie on theTodayshow earlier this year. “I think everybodywould be up for doing it. But Reese is such a sharp person and I think she just wants to make sure that the script is really good, if it gets done.”
