McCaffrey is not convinced so McConaughey elaborates. “Dude, think about it: turnovers, pancake blocks, scrambles,” he lists off. The NFL star interrupts him, “Come on, McConaughey!” but theDallas Buyers Clubactor mimics his tone back saying, “Come on, McCaffrey!”

McConaughey doesn’t skip a beat before continuing with examples: “Jabrill Peppers, man? C.J. Ham? Slather on some Jerod Mayo and you got yourself a sandwich.” He adds: “Refrigerator Perry was not his real name.”

“You’re being serious,” McCaffrey says in disbelief, but McConaughey doubles down. “Yeah, they got you where they want you,” he says and points to the screen where a player was doing a “feed me” gesture in the end zone. McConaughey snorts and adds, “C’mon man. Didn’t you go to Stanford?”

Another football legend plops down on the couch beside McConaughey: Jerry Rice. And he is not empty handed.

“And what are you eating, Jerry?” McConaughey asks him in a leading tone.

The retired San Francisco 49ers player responds in between bites, “Rice.”

“Jerry’s eating rice,” McConaughey says mockingly, turning to McCaffrey.

Off-screen, McConaughey and McCaffrey admit to being believers of the connection between football and food — though maybe not as adamantly as the actor pretends in the commercial.

“Why does watching football make you so hungry? Wonder no more,” thePantalones Tequila foundersays of the spot. “Food’s for football, and football’s for food. Don’t believe me? Just askUber Eats.”

McCaffrey shares a similar sentiment: “On the field, I’m all about football – off the field, I’m all about food. Is that a connection? Maybe. Is it why I’m working with Uber Eats? Yes.”

“I’m excited to team up with Matthew McConaughey, Jerry Rice and Uber Eats to bring the thrills of fall football and food to fans all season long,” he adds.
