Maya Hawke Supports Brother Levon Hawke in His Directorial Theater Debut in N.Y.C.

Levon Hawke’s directorial theater debutPicture Daywas a family affair!

Levon’s first major project as a writer and director at the Coffey Street Studio had a few famous faces in the audience over the play’sfinal weekendin Red Hook, Brooklyn, as it headed. Ahead of the Oct. 5 performance, Levon, 22, posed for a picture with his sisterMaya Hawkeon the play’s set and wrapped her in a big hug.

Their parents,Ethan HawkeandUma Thurmanalso made an appearance. Ethan, 53, posed for a picture in matching shirts with Levon. An insider tells PEOPLE that theDead Poets Societyactor enjoyed the play so much that he saw it three times and brought his mother Leslie to a September show.

Thurman, 56, meanwhile, “gave her son lots of love,” while attendingPicture Dayon Oct. 4, the source adds. “Levon helped determine where she should sit. During the play, Uma was laughing during some points, very focused and leaning forward, intensely listened throughout,” they said.

The insider continues: “She was very low-key and humble and recognized it was Levon’s moment to shine. The play got a standing ovation at the end. She came back for closing night on Sunday.”

Richard Linklater, Levon’s godfather, also flew out to see one of the September performances.

A source tells PEOPLE that Levon was “so passionate, dedicated and hands-on” with the play’s run.

He “always arrived early each day and mingled with guests before and after the show,” they added. “He truly enjoyed the whole experience and was very proud of what they accomplished.”
