Michael Keaton'sSNLMonologue Sees Andy Samberg, Mikey Day as Beetlejuices, While Alec Baldwin Returns for Cold Open

Michael Keatonhad some spooky characters join him during hisSaturday Night Livemonologue!

During his opening monologue, Keaton discussed his latest filmBeetlejuice, Beetlejuice— a sequel to the1998 Tim Burton filmBeetlejuicein which he also starred. He noted that with Halloween coming up, he would be seeing plenty of kids dressed up as his Beetlejuice character, which he admitted was “adorable.”

He then added that he would also likely see, “a lot of grown men dressed up like Beetlejuice, too, usually guys in their 40s, which is less adorable.”

At that point, cast member Mikey Day appeared on stage next to Keaton dressed as Beetlejuice, urging him to say his famous line from the original 1998 movie: “It’s showtime.”

As the actor demurred that he no longer remembered how he had originally said the phrase,Andy Sambergstepped into the frame on his other side, also dressed as Beetlejuice and giving his best impression of the character.

Keaton later noted that Samberg, 46, has typically been appearing during in season 50 in the show’s cold opens, in a cameo role as vice presidentKamala Harris' husband,Doug Emhoff.

“Yeah, the writers couldn’t jam him in this week, so here we find ourselves,” Samberg explained.

While Emhoff didn’t appear in this week’s cold open, that sketch did see another familiar face return to SNL, in the form ofAlec Baldwin.

Introducing himself as Baier to the delight of the audience, Baldwin then added, “to clear the air, yes, I do look like someone made a business man in Minecraft,” before Rudolph’s Harris joined him on stage for the sit-down chat.

Keaton’s hosting gig this weekend marked his fourth time hostingSNL. He first hosted in October 1982, before then coming back to Studio 8H in November 1992 and April 2015. He also made a cameo appearance in April 2019.

SNLis currently in the midst of its landmark season 50, which kicked off its first episode on Sept. 28 withJean Smartas host andJelly Rollas musical guest. Other hosts and musical guests so far have includedNate BargatzewithColdplayandAriana GrandewithStevie Nicks.

This season, returning cast membersMarcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow andDevon Walkerwere promoted to the main cast after two years each as featured players, whilePunkie Johnson, Chloe Troast and Molly Kearney have all stepped away. Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim and Jane Wickline, meanwhile, have been added to the sketch comedy show’s roster.
