The second incarnation of Mina Starsiak Hawk’s Two Chicks District Co. store is closing, seven months after it opened.
After making the difficult decision to shutter her original shop in Indianapolis last year, theGood Bonesstar launched its new location in Noblesville, Ind. in March.
However, shetold theIndianapolis Starthat the brick-and-mortar store simply wasn’t profitable enough to stay in business after its short-term lease was up.
“By the time it came to make a decision to stay, I just couldn’t… we were losing money,” she said.

Starsiak Hawk also announced the news on Two Chicks’social media accountson Thursday, Sept. 26, noting that the business would continue to operate online and expressing excitement for its upcoming holiday collection.
“He has businesses there, and he was like, ‘What can we do to get you to Noblesville?'" she said. “Is there a show to base out of here?”

“I mean, [Good Bones] was a giant commercial for Indianapolis, which was amazing,” added Mina, who launched her home renovation business Two Chicks and a Hammer with her mom, Karen E. Laine, there in 2007.
“I guess his thought was having Two Chicks and a Hammer in the neighborhood is good for the businesses,” she adds.
Mina announced her plans to close the original Two Chicks District Co. in October 2023, which was the same monthGood Bonesended its original eight-seasonrun.
It was a “super emotional” decision for both her and Steve, she said at the time.

“When I first came home and told him this is what I want to do, he said, ‘Absolutely not. You’re not closing the store. You love the store. It’s your passion,’” she said. “I was like, ‘It’s not my passion anymore. It’s not bringing anyone joy. It’s not doing any of the things that I wanted it to do, so we’re not doing it anymore.’”
Mina explained that running the store became “super challenging,” because even though it drew tourists from around the globe, they weren’t necessarily making big purchases.
“You have these amazing people that are traveling to the store and say, ‘We wanted to come, we wanted to see it. We want to support you.’ And then they buy a $2 keychain,” she said.
Mina estimated that at least 85 percent of the stores’ visitors weren’t from Indiana and were visiting the store due to the popularity ofGood Bones.
It was “self-sustaining”, she said of the shop, whichopened in 2020,but it was “not in a great place.”
