The family of a 47-year-old man who went missing last week while camping in California has located his cat and two dogs as the search for him continues.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Officesaid in a Sept. 21 update on Facebookthat Eric Campbell’s family found his pets along with his vehicle at a campsite in the Patrick’s Creek area.
“The individual being searched for was camping in the area and his camp has been located along with his dogs and cat,” the department said in its earlier announcement about Campbell, whose name was initially withheld due to investigative purposes.
PEOPLE reached out to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office for additional comment.
“We ask that folks stay clear of the area to give searchers and family space,” the sheriff’s office said in their Sept. 21 update. “A huge thank you to Dan Bratton and the CHP for the assistance with their helicopters. Also a big thank you to all of the assisting SAR teams and Law Enforcement that have come to help with ground searches and drone operations.”

Per the Northern California news outletRedheaded Blackbelt, in addition to Campbell’s animals, his truck was found with the hood up, possibly indicating mechanical issues with the vehicle.
