A mother and daughter who are both fighting cancer at the same time are keeping their spirits up thanks to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ success in the World Series.

Genny Duran was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2023. One month later, her 19-year-old daughter Cassidy Duran was diagnosed withmedulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer.

Meanwhile, Cassidy underwent ​​several high-risk brain surgeries, “intense” rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and numerous blood and platelet transfusions. She is now dealing with permanent complications with her bone marrow and has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

“I’m in pain, but nothing compares to what she’s gone through,” Genny toldKTLA5. “So if she could do it, I could do it. And we’re both gonna beat this.”

Both Genny and Cassidy’s respective cancers have left them in and out of the hospital dealing with “constant pain,” and their journeys are far from over.

“It gives us something to look forward to,” Genny told the outlet. “These last two games have been amazing.”

“You’re watching this and you’re not even thinking about the pain or the medical side of everything, you’re just watching and cheering,” added Cassidy, who said her dream is to attend a World Series game.
