Nev Schulman’s wife,Laura Perlongo, has shared a lengthy update about how theDancing with the Starsalum is recovering after he broke his neck in abike accident— and how she and her family are coping in the wake of his injury.

“Since Nev’s bike accident I’ve been caught in the nonlinear blur of trauma but any time I manage to come up for air, the love and support has been astounding. And sometimes I’m pretty tough like we all can be,” Perlongo shared in anInstagrampost on Thursday, Aug. 15.

“I can call doctors and plan for the kids and track the meds without taking a single breath," Perlongo explained. “But then I’ll accidentally breathe… or try to take a sip of the water pre-accident Nev would leave for me at my bedside and it’s not there and I’ll totally collapse - it’s the kind words and love here and everywhere that pull me up and out of the trenches and for that I am very very grateful.”

She continued, “Thank you to every single person who has messaged or sent love, prayers or even tossed a smile my way this week, it’s all so powerful and deeply felt at my core.”

Perlongo praised her husband’s surgeon, Dr. Mushlin at Stony Brook University Hospital, whom she called “cool, calm and reassuring today, pre and post-op.”

The doctor, she said, made “spine surgery seem as easy as peeling a carrot when he’s out here making miracles and saving lives. (Don’t worry I know it’s hard - will not try at home!).”

As theCatfishstar, 39, explained in his initial disclosure of his accident, “life can change in an instant.”

“I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike,” he wrote. “In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious.”

His injuries, he said, were “stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS.”

As Perlongo shared her thanks to those who’ve helped her cope, she singled out “all the nurses who shared such an intense week with us in the ICU.”

“Thank you thank you thank you," she said. “The road to recovery has already had its share of scary realizations and you might see me crying in the streets here and there, but really I just want to say that I appreciate the love. Nev and I are very lucky and know it. ❤️”
