The California Highway Patrol is celebrating a “freeway miracle.”
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, authorities said a pregnant woman, whom they identified only as Mrs. Accardo, was en route to a hospital on I-15 when officers from San Bernardino’s California Highway Patrol office rushed into action to help her through contractions as she went into labor.
The “life-changing” moment took place near Cleghorn Road, while Accardo’s sister was driving her to the hospital on the freeway, per areleasefrom authorities shared on social media.

It wasn’t long before Officers Zamora, Rafael and Carrillo of the CHP arrived on-site and turned the freeway into what the office is calling an “impromptu delivery room.”
After the officers supported her through her contractions, the mother was transported “safely” to the hospital, per the CHP.

In the post’s comment section, locals commended the officers for being “angels” and “heroes,” while also wishing the newborn and her mother a “speedy recovery.”
A nurse also shared her thoughts under the post: “Such a beautiful family! Glad I could be a part of this beautiful blessing.”

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) told PEOPLE in an email that it responded to a medical call at Miami International Airport around 5:04 p.m. local time on Nov. 12.
“Miami-Dade Aviation personnel, Miami-Dade Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection assisted with helping the patient prior to our arrival,” MDFR said. “MDFR’s Rescue 40 transported one adult patient and a pediatric patient to a local area hospital.”
