Person Who Found Man Dead in a Tent Thought He Was Killed in Bear Attack. It Was Actually a Brutal Murder

The body Dustin Kjersem, 35, was found north of Big Sky, Mont., on Saturday, Oct. 12, theGallatin County Sheriff’s Officesaid.

Police began investigating the incident as a homicide and found evidence that supported that classification, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff’s office called it a “vicious attack.” No one has been arrested in connection with the homicide.

“This is a homicide and we are working all hours of day and night to find his killer,” Sheriff Dan Springer said, according toExplore Big Sky.“He was brutally killed at his campsite and we need your help.”

Springer reportedly said that Kjersem had plans to meet with a friend the day before his body was found, but failed to show up.

Explore Big Skyfurther reported that an autopsy found that Kjersem had suffered multiple chop wounds, though police have not yet identified a murder weapon.
